Your Moto X 2014 should have Root access. Also, a custom recovery like Clockworkmod (CWM) or TWRP must be installed. If you haven’t installed yet, then follow our complete guide given below:
Enable the USB debugging mode on your phone.
Moto X 2014 Android 8.0 Oreo LineageOS 15 ROM Google Apps (Android 8.0 Oreo)
Steps to install Android 8.0 Oreo LineageOS 15 on Moto X 2014:
Step 1: Download both the Lineage OS 15 ROM and GApps (.zip) package files to a convenient location on your computer. Note: Remember not to extract these zip files. Step 2: Connect your phone to the computer and copy both these zip files on your phone’s internal memory. Then safely disconnect your device from the computer. Note: If you don’t have a computer, then you can directly download the zip files on your phone. Step 3: Now Power off your Moto X 2014 completely until it vibrates. Step 4: After that, you need to boot your device into bootloader mode. For that, keeping the phone as it is, press and hold the Volume down key + Power button simultaneously until your Moto X 2014 lands into bootloader mode as given below.
Note: In bootloader mode, the Volume down button is used for scrolling and Volume up for selection.
Step 5: Use the Volume down key and navigate to the Recovery mode option and select it using the Volume up button.
Step 6: As soon as you press the Volume up button your phone will automatically boot into TWRP recovery mode. Note: The first thing you need to do as you enter the TWRP recovery mode is to take a complete backup of your current ROM. Refer to our detailed guide for taking complete Nandroid backup: Step 7: Now go back to the main menu of TWRP recovery and select the Wipe option. Step 8: On the next screen swipe right to begin the factory reset process. Note: This step will clear the data on your phone memory so make sure you have backed up everything before implementing this step. Step 9: After wiping out everything press the back button and again go to the main menu and select the Wipe option. Step 10: Then click on the Advanced Wipe option present there. Step 11: On the next screen, select the particular partitions to wipe. Note: Do not tick the Internal Storage option. Then swipe right to begin the wiping process. Step 12: Let’s flash the Lineage ROM. So go back and select the Install option from the TWRP main menu. This will show you all the files and folders present on your phone’s memory. Step 13: Navigate to the Android 8.0 Oreo-based Lineage OS 15 ROM which you’ve copied earlier and select it. On the next screen just swipe right to begin the actual Android 8.0.0 Oreo ROM flashing process. Step 14: Wait for few minutes until the process finishes. As soon as it completes, you’ll see a successful message on the screen. Step 15: Now go back and install the Google Apps zip package file (which contains Play Store, Maps, Gmail, Gtalk, etc.) in the same way as you’ve flashed the Lineage OS 15 custom ROM. Step 16: Flashing process completes here. Just restart your Moto X by selecting the Reboot->System option present on the TWRP recovery mode itself. Note: The first boot will take more time to start than usual. Finally! The all new Android 8.0 Oreo based Lineage OS 15 custom ROM is successfully flashed on your Motorola Moto X 2014 (victara) 2nd Generation smartphone.
