A video the group recently posted, from its Q2 event, appears to show the Linaro version of Android dramatically outperforming a stock Android Open Source Project installation on a 3D graphics benchmark, finishing the tests well before the original version. Engineer Bernhard Rosenkränzer said in the video that much of the improvement is due to the use of a newer compiler version, as well as the aforementioned special tweaks to the OS....

Both Windows 11 version KB5009566 and Windows 10 version KB5009543 were released as planned on the second Tuesday of the month, known informally as ‘Patch Tuesday’. These updates fix existing security issues, but create several new ones at the same time. Among them is an inability to connect to VPNs using the popular L2TP protocol and Windows Server Domain Controllers restarting unexpectedly. The Android-powered Surface Duo includes two separate smartphone displays that can fold in on each other, as opposed to the flip and book-style foldables we’ve seen elsewhere. However, a big delay between the announcement and release of the original model left it feeling outdated and overpriced. 2021’s second attempt is a big step forward, but there are still significant software issues to overcome. It’s hoped that these will be addressed on an upcoming Surface Duo 3, but Microsoft may end up ditching the dual-screen design altogether....
The company currently sells the Surface Book, Surface Pro, Surface Laptop and Surface Go, all or any of which could see design or spec updates at the event. But all eyes will be on whether the project codenamed Centaurus will debut in any way. Rather than a foldable phone, it is rumoured to be a dual screen tablet/laptop hybrid. If the case, Microsoft will try and boldly lead the industry forward in hardware design, something it hasn’t done since the success of the Surface Pro....

Misfit delayed the Vapor to change a couple of key things: it no longer offers on-board GPS and now runs on Wear OS (formerly Android Wear 2.0) rather than Misfit’s own software. These are two quite big changes in taking away a useful (but expensive) feature and trusting Google’s Wear OS rather than use its own designed UI like Samsung does with Tizen. Thankfully the Vapor is an accomplished smartwatch that’s one of the better options on the market, but not the best....

The findings come from the F-Secure blog and detail the flaw which is based around the idea of a ‘cold boot’ attack. This type of attack is possible when a hacker gets the chance to physically access a laptop, and forces it to reboot and steals any information that remains in the computer’s RAM. In their tests, the experts have found this method to be effective against almost all current generation laptops including Apple, Dell and Lenovo....

While the processors will obviously feature a speed increase, Intel is marketing the Gigabit Wi-Fi connectivity that it has built into its six new chips.
